Mason Lagasse (left) is an RA in Champlain Hall, A building Manager at the Harold Alfond Forum, and loves to be involved in campus activities. He believes that each organization gives him unique connections and experiences. He says that these experiences give him comfort in knowing that he has developed himself as an undergrad, and this comfort gives him the confidence to always be prepared for what comes next. Mason also said it is important to know how to successfully market ourselves to others in order to get these opportunities. He notes that his best experience came from applying to be a Building Manager because the job is more in-depth than your traditional desk job, with a more volunteer aspect to the work. He gave the example of being able to assist with the Teddy Bear Toss, which works with a non profit organization to provide toys for children during a campus sporting event. He says he feels fulfilled at the end of the week, which is important when deciding what to involve yourself in. And even though Mason is always seeking more, he reminds us that personal time is also important to keep your head level because relaxing and winding down regularly is far better than needing to quit something important. One piece of advice he has for every incoming student is to make your own opportunities. He believes people can and should ultimately make their own decisions, and many people can be trapped trying to follow every piece of advice they’ve been given. Mason’s self-sought opportunities have bestowed in him the confidence and knowledge he needs to navigate his college and professional life successfully, and he suggests that incoming students embrace their new level of independence. Thank you, Mason!
